1889 college football season

The 1889 college football season had no clear-cut champion, with the Official NCAA Division I Football Records Book listing Princeton as having been selected national champions. On December 14, Wofford defeated Furman played the first intercollegiate game in the state of South Carolina. The game featured no uniforms, no positions, and the rules were formulated before the game. Wofford won 5 to 1.
