1186 Turnera, provisional designation 1929 PL, is a main-belt asteroid discovered on August 1, 1929, by Cyril Jackson at Johannesburg Union Observatory in South Africa. The relatively bright, stony S-type asteroid measures about 36 kilometers in diameter.

Turnera is named in honor of the British astronomer Herbert Hall Turner (1861–1930), director of the Oxford University Observatory. He is also credited with coining the term "parsec".
