The municipality covers an area of 16.03 square kilometres (6.19 sq mi), and has a population of 1,957 (as at 13 June 2008).
Želechovice nad Dřevnicí lies on the Dřevnice river, approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) east of Zlín and 259 km (161 mi) east of Prague. The village is situated east of the town of Zlin. The state road I/49, which connects Zlin with Vsetin and Slovak border goes through the village. The village also lies on the train track of regional importance (Otrokovice-Zlin-Vizovice track, code 331). This track is not electrified, but offers a good range of regional public transport. Zelechovice nad Drevnici is connected to local public transport network of Zlin and Otrokovice towns (provider DSZO, Dopravni podnik Zlin-Otrokovice/Public transport company Zlin-Otrokovice) with trolleybus line number 12.
