History

Ōhirashita Station was opened on 8 March 1898 as Tomiyama Station (富山駅, Tomiyama-eki). It was renamed to its present name on 16 October 1918. The station was absorbed into the JR East network upon the privatization of the Japanese National Railways (JNR) on 1 April 1987. The layout of the station was reduced from two platforms serving three tracks to the present single platform/single track layout in 2001.
