Sosa played high school basketball at Rice High School in New York City where he received all-American honors. His high school teammates include Curtis Kelly (Kansas State) and Kashif Pratt (Seton Hall). He played under the coaching of Maurice Hicks.

As a freshman at Louisville playing with Derrick Caracter, Earl Clark and Jerry Smith, the young group struggled early in the 2006–07 season. The team went on to win 8 out of its last 10 games, earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament. In the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Texas A&M, Édgar scored 31 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist. He shot 15 for 17 from the line and 7 for 9 from the field. Sosa shot 15 for 15 on free throws to start the game, but missed his final two, as Texas A&M won the game.

On January 4, 2009, Sosa hit a game winning 25 footer over Michael Porter, Kentucky's point guard. That season, Sosa helped lead the Cardinals to the Elite Eight, where they lost to Michigan State.

Professional career

After going undrafted in the 2010 NBA draft, Sosa joined the Detroit Pistons for the 2010 NBA Summer League. He later signed with Italian Serie A team Angelico Biella for the 2010–11 season.

After sitting out the 2011–12 season, Sosa joined the Sacramento Kings for the 2012 NBA Summer League, but failed to appear in a game for the team. In January 2013, Sosa had a two-game stint with Blancos de Rueda Valladolid. He later played in Puerto Rico for Cangrejeros de Santurce and in his home country for Leones de Santo Domingo.

On September 30, 2013, Sosa signed with ratiopharm Ulm of the German Basketball Bundesliga for the 2013–14 season.

On July 7, 2014, Sosa signed with the Italian Euroleague team Dinamo Sassari for the 2014–15 season.

On September 25, 2015, Sosa signed with the Atlanta Hawks. However, he was later waived by the Hawks on October 10 after appearing in one preseason game.

On October 19, 2015, Sosa sign a deal with the Iranian team Petrochimi Bandar Imam. After winning the Iranian Super League title, on April 16, 2016, he signed with the Israeli club Hapoel Jerusalem for the rest of the season.

On August 11, 2016, Sosa signed with Italian club Juvecaserta Basket for the 2016–17 season. On March 15, 2017, he parted ways with Juvecaserta after averaging 19.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game in Serie A. Three days later, he signed with Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut of the Lebanese Basketball League.

On September 5, 2011, while playing for the Dominican national team, Sosa suffered a graphic and severe leg injury, which ruled him out of the 2011–12 season, having signed with Sutor Montegranaro.
