Zizooboats GmbH, commonly referred to as Zizoo, is an Austrian boat rental service founded in May 2014, based in Vienna with offices in Berlin, Germany. Zizoo provides boats listed by individuals and charter companies from 30 countries including Croatia, Spain, Italy, France, India (Mahé), Thailand, Turkey, Portugal, Norway, Caribbean and Australia. Users can rent catamarans, motorboats, sailboats and gulets.
In February 2015, Zizoo partnered with the Turkish airline company SunExpress, allowing customers to book a connecting boat holiday via Zizoo’s website. In October 2015, Zizoo started its services in the UK.
In July 2015, Zizoo won a TechCrunch pitch-off award.
Funding
Zizoo started as a bootstrap-funded company with backing by angel investors. In August 2015, Zizoo got an investment sum of 700,000 euros from Axel Springer Plug and Play Accelerator, Austrian State Development Fund, and other angel backers from the U.S. and Europe.
In July 2016, Zizoo received €1.7 million in funding from Mairdumont Ventures, AWS Founder Fund, Russmedia, Axel Springer Digital Ventures and Plug and Play along with other European and US angel investors.
