Zhuazhou

Zhuazhou (抓周 – literally, "pick" and "anniversary") is an Asian ritual held at a child's first birthday party, when the child is 2 years old by Chinese reckoning. The parents put various objects before the child. His choice is used to forecast his future. This custom can be traced back to the Song dynasty (960-1279). It is portrayed in a well-known scene in the novel Dream of the Red Chamber. It is similar to the Korean ritual of Doljanchi.
