Zeger Jacob van Helmont

Zeger Jacob van Helmont (1683 – 1726), was an 18th-century painter from the Southern Netherlands.

Biography

He was born in Brussels as the son of the painter Jan van Helmont. He is known for paintings and tapistry designs of historical allegories. According to Jean-Baptiste Descamps he was descended from the alchemist Jean Baptist van Helmont, but paintings of alchemists attributed to him had actually been painted by Mattheus van Helmont, another relation.

He died in Brussels.
