Zak Carr

Zak Carr (6 March 1975 in Norwich, Norfolk – 17 October 2005) was a British cyclist who specialised in the time trial discipline.

He was a multiple national champion, winning the 12 Hour, 50 Mile Team and 100 Mile Team titles in 2003. He also competed in tandem events, and was aiming to ride at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics as a sighted pilot.

He was killed while cycling to work along the A11 road from his home town of Attleborough towards Norwich. He was struck from behind by a motorist who was returning home from a holiday. The driver was later sentenced to five years in prison; the prosecution argued he was sleep-deprived after an overnight flight and fell asleep at the wheel.
