Summary

The plot of Yuck, A Love Story centres on a young boy named Austin, upset that a girl named Amy is moving into the house next door. Feigning disinterest in Amy, Austin nevertheless wants to impress her.

The author

Don Gillmor, author and journalist, was born in Fort Frances, Ontario in January 1959, and now lives in Toronto. Gillmor went to the University of Calgary and has a B.A. in English literature. He has written a novel set in contemporary Toronto and a novel called Kanata, dealing with the whole of Canadian history. Gillmor has written nine books for children, two of which were nominated for the Governor General's Award. He has also won numerous other honours, including ten National Magazine Awards.

The illustrator

Marie-Louise Gay was born on June 17, 1952 in Quebec City and grew up in Montreal and Vancouver; her family moved ten times before she was twelve years old. Gay did not become fond of drawing until 17, after having failed art in grade 3. She was a child actress for a short time before another family move ended her acting career. She has written and illustrated children's books in both French and English; her Stella and Sam books have been published in more than a dozen languages. She has won multiple awards, including the Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver Canadian Picture Book Award.
