Yeren 野人, "men of the fields", "rustics" - category of population in the Zhou world (11-3 cc. BCE) referring to the people living outside of the Zhou cultural centers.

Lunyu 11:1 provides problematic statement on primacy of the yeren in undergoing influence of the "ritual and music" (先進於禮樂,野人也), that were traditionally thought to be achievements of the Zhou culture. Cf. Hua–Yi distinction.
