Yardbird is a modern izakaya that specializes in yakitori dishes of skewered grilled chicken. The restaurant is located on Bridges Street in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. The menu, created by Chef Matt Abergel, focuses on different parts of a chicken, from neck to tail, that are grilled over Binchotan charcoal. The chicken served at Yardbird is sourced from a Hong Kong purveyor who finds high quality, healthy chickens from local farms.

Design
Owners Matt Abergel and Lindsay Jang worked with furniture designer, Sean Dix, and artist, Evan Hecox, to create a family-style, neighborhood establishment that combines quality service with food and drink in a fun and relaxed environment. The brand identity, including the bird logo and wordmark, was designed by Evan Hecox.
Cuisine
In addition to yakitori, Yardbird also features ‘smaller’ and ‘bigger’ dishes that incorporate fresh, seasonal ingredients. The beverage list, created by Beverage Director Elliot Faber, is a collection of selected sake, shōchū, beer, wine, cocktails, and Japanese whisky. Besides yakitori, signature dishes include the Sweet Corn Tempura, KFC (Korean Fried Cauliflower) and Chicken and Egg Rice.
Recognition
The restaurant has been attributed with creating a wave of restaurants that follow a 'no reservations' and 'no service charge' policy in Hong Kong. Their slogan 'come early, come often' in addition to their 'tip according to service' philosophy has helped bring the concept of casual yet high-quality, family-style dining to Hong Kong, a popular concept in world cities like New York and London.
It was also listed as No. 46 and 45 on the World's 50 Best Restaurants Asia List in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
