Yang Hong was an official serving under the warlord Yuan Shu during the late Han Dynasty period of Chinese history. In 195, when Yuan wanted to attack Sun Ce for breaking relations with him, Yang suggested that he should attack Liu Bei first instead. Yang planned to send a shipment of food supplies to Lü Bu, requesting for his support in attacking Liu. However, Yuan attacked Liu before Lü's assistance was assured, and he lost the battle. When Cao Cao and other warlords attacked Yuan in 197 for declaring himself emperor, Yang fled together with his lord.

After Yuan Shu's death in 199, Yang and Zhang Xun decided to flee south to join Sun Ce, but Liu Xun declared independence from Yuan's forces and he captured Yang, Zhang and Yuan Shu's son Yuan Yao. In the same year, Sun Ce attacked Liu Xun and saved Yang and Yuan Yao.
