xkoto, Inc. was a privately held developer of database load balancing software headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was acquired by Teradata in 2010.

History

xkoto Inc. was founded in 2005 using research and development work at Halcyon Monitoring Solutions Inc., a data center management vendor. "xkoto" is a transliteration of two Greek words which convey the idea of "out of darkness, out of chaos".

Gridscale load balances database servers in a cluster using an active/active arrangement - they are available and active all the time. The technology was patented. It received a Deloitte 2007 mention as a company to watch in Canada. The company closed an investment of US $7.5 million in venture capital financing in November 2007, including investor GrowthWorks. Another $3 million was announced in 2009.

xkoto was acquired by Teradata in May, 2010. By July 2010 Teradata discontinued the product.
