Xiquets Copenhagen

Xiquets Copenhagen is an international colla castellera in Copenhagen, Denmark with an interest in building and promoting human towers (castells), a tradition originating in Catalonia and recognised as a UNESCO Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The team is run by its members (castellers) and is directed by the management committee (junta) and technical team (comissió tècnica).

History

Xiquets Copenhagen was founded in October 2013. It was established by a combined effort of Søren Sandahl (former member of Ganàpies - Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), Isaac Abella Appelquist, Casal Català of Copenhagen and the original caps de colla Natàlia Quero Prat and Pau Prat (former member of Castellers de Figueres and Castellers de l'Albera). The group was established as a multicultural organization, free from politics, with the goal of promoting the tradition of castells in Denmark by holding open rehearsals and organizing public performances. Currently, rehearsals take place in Nørrebro, at either Nørrebro Park Skole or Nørrebrohallen sports complex.
