Xin Ping

Xin Ping (died 204), courtesy name Zhongzhi, was an official and adviser who lived in the decades leading to the end of the Eastern Han dynasty (c. 184–220). He started his career as an adviser to the warlord Han Fu, who was the governor of Ji Province. After Han Fu's death in 191, he came to serve the warlord Yuan Shao as an adviser to Yuan Tan, Yuan Shao's eldest son. During this time, he once received an offer from Cao Cao, the warlord who controlled the Han central government from the 190s to 220, to serve in his administration, but he declined.

Xin Ping's younger brother, Xin Pi, also served under Yuan Shao but defected to Cao Cao after the Battle of Guandu in 200, and continued serving in the state of Cao Wei, founded by Cao Cao's successor Cao Pi, during the Three Kingdoms period (220–280).
