Ximian Desktop was a GNOME-based desktop environment from Ximian. It was made to be suitable for desktop and office-productivity environment, and it enabled businesses to use Linux and open source software for daily work. Rather than being a complete Linux distribution, it was designed to fit on top of existing distributions, such as Red Hat and Suse.

It comprised the following modules:

Productivity: Novell's edition of OpenOffice.org Office suite, Mozilla Firefox web browser, and more.

Communication: Novell Evolution and Novell GroupWise for collaboration, Gaim for multi-network instant messaging.

Enterprise ready: Novell Linux Desktop 9 with Service Pack 2 is fully enterprise-ready, with iPrint, Novell ZENworks integration, and more.

Developer-friendly: Free SDK available at developer.novell.com
