World Rally Championship (also known as WRC: World Rally Championship) is a rally driving game for the PlayStation 2. It is the first rallying game to be officially licensed by the FIA World Rally Championship and is based on the 2001 WRC season.

Contents

Features

WRC features 21 drivers representing 7 teams and all 14 venues from the season. Game modes feature quick rally, single rally, championship and time trial. Each car is made from around 8000 polygons. There are also cheats that will make the game funnier (Helium Co-Driver, Psychedelic effects, Underwater view, No chassis and Low Gravity).

Teams and drivers

21 drivers and seven teams appear on the game. Although Citroen did not undertake a full season, they are featured on the game at all events and thus eligible to score team points in championship mode.

1Because Colin McRae had his own video game series at this time, Sony could not acquire the license for him to appear, so he appeared on the game under the title of "Ford Driver".

Rallies

The game features all 14 rallies on the 2001 WRC calendar.

  • Rallye Automobile Monte Carlo
  • The International Swedish Rally
  • TAP Rallye de Portugal
  • Rallye Catalunya Costa Brava
  • Rally Argentina
  • Cyprus Rally
  • Acropolis Rally
  • Safari Rally
  • Neste Rally Finland
  • Propecia Rally New Zealand
  • Rallye Sanremo
  • PlayStation 2 Rallye de France - Tour de Corse
  • Telstra Rally Australia
  • Network Q Rally of Great Britain
  • Reception

World Rally Championship received "favorable" reviews according to the review aggregation website Metacritic. In Japan, where the game was ported and published by Spike on 14 March 2002, Famitsu gave it a score of 35 out of 40.
