The Safety and Health at Work Directive 89/391/EEC is a European Union directive that sets out general principles for protection of workers' Occupational safety and health. It was adopted on 12 June 1989 and the EU member states had to transpose it into their national laws until 31 December 1992.

It also provides the enabling framework for a number of other individual directives concerned with specific aspects of health and safety.
