Woke (stylized as WOKE) is an alternative hip hop supergroup consisting of producer Flying Lotus, musicians Stephen Bruner, Ishmael Butler, and Tendai Maraire, and rapper-producer Jeremiah Jae.

History

In June 2015, member Flying Lotus was announced to be in Adult Swim Music's Adult Swim Singles Program 2015 line up. On September 28, "The Lavishments of Light Looking" was released as the seventeenth single on Adult Swim Singles Program 2016. On September 29, Flying Lotus revealed to Pitchfork Media that WOKE was originally a feature film started in 2012 and starring Ishmael Butler from Shabazz Palaces and Jeremiah Jae. It was later scrapped due to not having someone to invest in the film. Flying Lotus decided to create a music group with Shabazz Palaces and Thundercat first and create a film later. They started creating music in early 2015. Lotus stated no album was set at the moment, but they have ideas for one.

On October 13, Thundercat told The Fader that a WOKE album is coming and that the band has been a idea of Flying Lotus since 2010.
