Wisconsin Sea Grant is one of 32 programs based at major universities funded through the National Sea Grant College Program.

James Hurley, a water chemist specializing on the impact of mercury, was appointed director on May 1, 2012. Other staff specialize in topics such as geographic information systems, fisheries and aquaculture, aquatic invasive species, water quality, habitat restoration, and coastal engineering.

Wisconsin’s Water Library is associated with the program.
