Wingo is a low-cost air service within an airline brand owned and operated by Copa Airlines Colombia. It is headquartered in Bogotá, Colombia, with its main base at El Dorado International Airport. It operates scheduled passenger flights to more than 15 destinations around North, Central and South America, and the Caribbean.

History

Panamanian company Copa Holdings, S.A. unveiled its new low cost airline Wingo on 20 October 2016, after making an US$6 million investment for the airline’s launch. Wingo commenced operations on 1 December 2016 with a scheduled flight from Bogotá to Cancún, which included a ceremony to mark the occasion. Wingo was founded by its parent company to be used on some routes in Latin America and the Caribbean where it replaced Copa Airlines Colombia. All flights of Wingo are operated by Copa Airlines Colombia, using its Copa Colombia’s call sign and codes. The airline offers a buy on board service for all domestic and international flights, which include beverages, snacks, meals, and liquor.

Corporate affairs

Copa Holdings indicated during Wingo's inception in October 2016 that Catalina Bretón, a former JetBlue and Avianca executive, would lead the airline; while Eduardo Lombana, the CEO of Copa Airlines Colombia, would be in charge of the airline's administration, finance and operations.
