Windsor Creek, Alberta

The locality of Windsor Creek is approximately 72 kilometres (45 mi) west south-west of Grande Prairie. Named for its proximity to the creek of the same name, the post office opened in Oct 1929. The first postmaster was G.F. Clarkson. Windsor Creek flows north-east into Beavertail Creek approximately 63 km west of Grande Prairie. Although the origin of the name is not precisely known, it may have been named after the place in Berkshire, England. The name means “bank or slope with a windlass”. A windlass is a horizontal axle wheel used for hauling or hoisting. It shows on a federal government map as early as 1930.
