William J. Slocum (1884 – May 6, 1943) was an American sports writer who spent more than twenty years covering baseball in New York newspapers.
Slocum started his sports writing career in 1917. Among other things he was a ghostwriter for Babe Ruth. He was one of the organizers of the New York chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America. The BBWAA Chapter honored Slocum in 1930 by naming an award after him, which is presented annually to a person judged to have given long and meritorious service to baseball.
