William Foster


Sir William Foster was an Australian politician.

He was born in Yorkshire to farmer John Foster and Jane Dowbiggin; his brother was John Foster, also a politician. In 1827 he migrated to Sydney, having completed study at Cambridge University and Lincoln's Inn Fields. A barrister, he was appointed Solicitor-General and chairman of the Court of Quarter Sessions. From 1843 to 1845 he was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council.
