What Am I Doing in New Jersey? is the 12th album and sixth HBO special by American comedian George Carlin. It was recorded at the Park Performing Arts Center in Union City, New Jersey for an HBO special and released on August 15, 1988.
In a November 17, 1988 interview on Late Show with David Letterman, Carlin revealed the title was going to be "What in God's Name Am I Doing in New Jersey?" and when about to explain the title change, Letterman asks about Carlin's childhood, a topic which the interview follows from then on.
After this HBO special, Carlin started wearing black clothing...a theme he continued until his last one.
