Western Female Guardian Home

'

Anna L. Clapp served as the president of the Western Female Guardian Home after the civil war in 1865.

The cholera epidemic was a reason why these homes were created because many kids were left without families to take care of them after their parents had died from the epidemic. Cholera is caused by the bacteria "Vibrio cholerae" which is very rare in the present day 21st century, however was common domestically in the 1800s. Modern water filters and technology make it difficult for Cholera to spread. However in countries such as Haiti, outbreaks have occurred as recent as the 20th century.

Later Life

Clapp died on December 3rd,1889. Lee Center, Illinois was the city she had died in.
