The Men's Bantamweight Weightlifting Event (– 56 kg) was the second lightest men's event at the weightlifting competition, limiting competitors to a maximum of 56 kilograms of body mass. Each weightlifter had three attempts for both the snatch and clean and jerk lifting methods. The total of the best successful lift of each method was used to determine the final rankings and medal winners.

Competition took place on July 30 in the 4,500 capacity Albert Gersten Pavilion.

Due to the 1984 Summer Olympics boycott, the competition only featured four competitors who had been to the previous year's World Championships. Reigning World Champion Oksen Mirzoyan decided to compete at the Friendship Games instead. Ahmed Tarbi, who originally finished ninth, was later disqualified for testing positive for the banned substance nandrolone.
