The Society meet most Monday evenings in Walthamstow, a suburb of London, between 8pm and 10pm. Its 80+ members are a mixture of professional and amateur photographers of all ages and backgrounds, brought together by a love of photography.

At weekly meetings there are a mixture of talks from photographers, competitions for members, and member's evenings which will be practical sessions.

The Society holds a number of competitions each year, including the Walker Trophy, Centenary Trophy, Albert Bale Trophy and the Goddard Memorial Trophy. These competitions are open to all members and are judged by external judges who are affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain.

Once a year the Society hold an annual exhibition in the autumn where the work of the Society is shown to members of the public.

Other regular exhibitions are presented by the Society including the E17 Art Trail, at the Winns Gallery within (Lloyd Park), and the Vestry House Museum.
