Walter Investment Management Corp. (NYSE: WAC) is a business services provider to the residential mortgage industry founded in 1958. The company is based in Tampa, Florida and trades under the symbol WAC. As of September 2012 the company had a billion dollar market capitalization and approximately 2,600 employees. The company was spun off from Walter Industries (now Walter Energy), a stick-built home building company founded by Tampa entrepreneur James W. Walter, Sr., in 2009. and changed its name to Walter Energy in April 2009.
