WSWW (1490 AM, "ESPN 1490") is one of two Charleston Sports AM stations. WSWW carries ESPN Radio, and is owned by the West Virginia Radio Corporation. The station has a power of 1,000 watts.

History

WSWW was bought by the West Virginia Radio Corporation in 1997. The station was owned by Empire Broadcasting System, Inc. from 1993 to July 1997. The station was the only Urban format station in the state of West Virginia, called (Crazy 1490). In 1995 it dropped the name Crazy 1490, and switched to "the All New 1490" (WCZR) although the format was the same, playing Hip-Hop, & R&B from noon to midnight, and Gospel from 6 am to noon. In July 1997 the station was bought by West Virginia Radio Corporation, and it switched to a sports format, ESPN Radio (WSSW).

Prior to 1993 it was owned by Empire Broadcasting System, Inc. Its format was hard rock and heavy metal with the call letters WCZR (Charleston's Z Rock) and was affiliated with the Z-Rock Network.

West Virginia Radio Corporation now operates the only Urban format in the state, on WRVZ 98.7 The Beat.
