History

The station went on the air as WAIA on October 15, 1986. On February 1, 1990, the station changed its call sign to WHWY, then it changed again on September 4, 1992 to WKLN & on February 18, 2003 to the current WSOS. WSOS went silent on June 30, 2010 after a dispute with the owner of the property on which its tower sits. It has currently resumed broadcasting.

Kevin Leslie Geddings, then known on air as "Kevin Leslie" & also then-husband of WFOY owner Kris Phillips was sentenced on May 7, 2007 due to an October 2006 conviction of 5 counts of fraud when he served as the state lottery commissioner in North Carolina. Phillips was sentenced to serve 4 years in federal prison in Jesup, Georgia as well as to pay a $25,000 fine. In 2010 the conviction was overturned and he was exonerated when it was determined the rules of law were not applied properly to his case.
