WLPR-FM is a FM noncommercial, public radio station broadcasting on 89.1 MHz in Lowell, Indiana, east of the Chicago metropolitan area. Financed primarily by listener contributions, Lakeshore Public Radio is affiliated with National Public Radio, American Public Media, and Public Radio Exchange. The station is owned and operated by Northwest Indiana Public Broadcasting, Inc. which also owns and operates WYIN a PBS affiliate.
History
WWLO, Lowell, was an American Family Radio affiliate until September 22, 2008 when Northwest Indiana Public Broadcasting, Inc. purchased the license from AFR for $1,050,000. Northwest Indiana Public Broadcasting, Inc. then requested the callsign to be changed to WLPR.
The station's format was changed from Christian Contemporary to NPR, local news, sports, and talk.
