Viviana Piñeiro Rodríguez is the Secretary of International Relations of the Socialist Party of Uruguay (PS) since April 2016, and currently member of the National Executive Committee and the Central Committee.

During the period 2010-2014, she presided the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY). She was part of the National Board of the Socialist Youth of Uruguay (JSU) from 2002 to 2011.

In the 2014 National Elections she was elected as alternate of Senator Monica Xavier for the period 2015-2020.

Since 2009 she has been responsible for technical design and implementation of public policies in different organizations. Since the creation of the National Integrated Care System (SNIC) in 2015, she has been part of the Care National Secretariat's team.

Biography

Viviana Piñeiro is a young Uruguayan political activist and socialist leader. During the period 2010-2014 she has been a political reference for socialist and social democratic youths around the world.

From a family with a long tradition in the Socialist Party of Uruguay, she began her political life at the age of 12, as a young activist in the city of Tacuarembó. From 2002 until 2011 she was a member of the National Board and the National Executive Committee of the Socialist Youth of Uruguay, where she served as National Secretary of Structure and National Secretary of International Relations.

In 2008 she was elected Vice-President of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY), and from March 2010 to March 2014 she served as President of the organization for two consecutive periods. As a IUSY President, she served as Vice-President of the Socialist International.

Since 2008 she has been a member of the Central Committee of the Socialist Party of Uruguay, and since 2011 a member of the National Executive Committee, having served as Undersecretary of National Relations and representative of the Socialist Party of Uruguay in the Political Bureau of the Frente Amplio coalition.

Since April 2016, she has been responsable (manager) of the Secretariat of International Relations.

With an education in Political Science at the University of the Republic, she has worked at the government level since 2009, initially at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MTSS) on topics relating to employment policies and youth policies; then at the Education Training Council (CFE/ANEP); as a Director of International Relations of the Ministry of Social Development (MIDES) in the period 2013-2015; and currently integrates the team of the Care National Secretariat.
