Vitória Futebol Clube da Praia is a football club that plays in the Santiago Island South Zone League in Cape Verde. It is based in the capital city of Praia in the island of Santiago and plays in the stadium, Estádio da Várzea with a capacity of 8,000 The club won their only island title in 1973 and participated in the second last colonial (provincial) final and lost. Its logo and uniform are identical to Vitória FC de Setubal of Portugal and is a club affiliate. The uniform has a yellow crown on top with a green circle with a green-white shield with a soccer ball in the middle and a tag reading the acronym "V.F.C.P.", a label on the top left reads the club's location and the founding date and a small tree branch on the right.

History

The football (soccer) club was established on May 1, 1931. and is the island's third oldest club and the nation's fourth oldest. Vitória won the Santiago Island title in 1973 and headed to one of the last provincial finals of Cape Verde under Portuguese rule.

In recent years, the club was not as powerful as it was in its early years. In 2012, the club was relegated and participated in the Second Division for a season and finished first. The club returned again into the Premier Division and finished 5th in the 2013/14 regional season and finished with 19 points, 6 wins, eleven draws and scored 12 goals. The following season, the club finished last place and was not relegated as two additional clubs were added for the 2015/16 season, Vitória finished with 14 points, 3 wins, half than last season, 5 draws and 10 losses, one less, the club scored 10 goals. The club finished ninth in the extended 2015/16 season and finished with 19 points, 5 wins, 13 losses and scored 30 goals, except for the losses part, better than last season. Vitória has not won a single match in the 2016-17 season, the club made their first draw with Sporting Praia in the 3rd round and currently has four draws but is in last place as of the 12th round.

Stadium

Estádio da Várzea is a multi-use stadium in Praia, Cape Verde. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 8,000. The stadium has seat rows in the left and right sides and a small hill and a plateau lies to the west. It is played along with Praia's five other famous teams including Sporting Praia, Boavista, Académica, Desportivo and CD Travadores in the same stadium. The club also practices at the stadium.
