Visual collaboration, often confused with video conferencing, is the concept of technology-enabled collaboration that can involve multiple sources brought together into an environment that is accessible from multiple devices in multiple locations. Video conferencing often requires scheduled sessions and lacks the ability for the sharing of content within the 'conversation' or from multiple sources simultaneously.

Vendors such as Notism, Magor and Involve Visual have developed online visual collaboration solutions for graphics and video while approaching the workflow and technology quite differently.

Vendors such as Bluescape, Prysm, and Oblong Industries take the notion of visual collaboration a step further to enable teams to collaborate visually across multiple screens, devices and locations. Content from multiple devices and sources flows across multiple surfaces simultaneously to create an immersive shared digital workspace with multi-user control across linked locations.
