Venkatapuram (Telugu: వెంకటాపురం) is a small village in the midway between Kurnool and Kadapa on National Highway-18 in Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh.

History

The village is named after Lord Venkateswara as it housed seven residents initially, resembling the seven hills of Tirumala

People

The majority of villagers are migrants from the districts of coastal Andhra Pradesh in search of better livelihood. The foundation stone was laid way back on 4 May, 1959 at 5:15 AM by Shri Bollepalli Radha Krishna Murthy and his younger brother rother Shri Bollepalli Hanumanth Rao with six other people.

Occupation

The occupation of the people is mainly agriculture which forms the backbone of the village economy and stands as a role model village in the vicinity of Sirvel Mandal. Rice is grown widely in two seasons Kharif and Rabi. The other occasional crops include Jowar(Sorghum), Mustard during the dry season. The lapse in the monsoons is met by the KC (Kurnool-Cuddapah) canal, which draws water from the River Tungabhadra, and provides irrigation facilities.

Recreation

Swimming in Irrigation wells finds a place in the recreation for the youth in the village. Cricket, Badminton and Volley Ball are the other sports being played.
