Vallabhi

The Vallabhi Council was the name of a Jain monks council meeting held in the year of 453 or 466 CE held at Valabhi.
The council was held 980 or 993 years after the death of last Tirthankara Mahavira to reduce down to writing sacred texts (Jain Aagam) that had so far been transmitted orally. The council of more than 500 Jain Acharyas was presided by Devardhigani Kshamashramana.

The council is often regarded as the event that marks emergence to two distinct sects: Svetambara and Digambara.
