History
The municipality of Valdberg was created by an acrimonious split from the municipality of Borge in 1927. The new municipality initially had 625 residents. On 1 January 1963, Valberg was merged with Borge, Buksnes, and Hol to create the new municipality of Vestvågøy. Before the merger, Valberg had a population of 662.
Name
The municipality (originally the parish) was named after the old Valberg farm (Norse Valberg or Valaberg), since Valberg Church was built there. The farm was named after a nearby mountain. The first element is valr which means "falcon" and the last element is berg which means "mountain".
