Ureaplasma infection

Ureaplasma infection is an infection by two species in the genus Ureaplasma, Infections caused Ureaplasma urealyticum are more common than infections caused by Ureaplasma parvum. Ureaplama infection is not a sexually transmitted infection. Ureaplasma is found naturally in the vagina.

This infection can also be transmitted vertically from an infected mother to her child before or after birth. Ureaplasma spp are not part of the healthy, female vaginal microbiota. Infection with this bacterium is one cause of bacterial vaginosis and pelvic inflammatory disease. It is a significant cause of non-gonococcal urethritis.
