United States Virgin Islands governor referendum, 1933

An unofficial referendum on the fate of Governor Pearson was held in the United States Virgin Islands on 16 July 1933. Governor Paul Martin Pearson had passed a law which taxed imports from the United States at a rate of 5%. This move was very unpopular, and the Civic Betterment Association held a private referendum asking voters whether they approved or disapproved of Pearson's actions.
