Incumbent Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer won re-election to a fourth term in office. This was considered by many polling aggregate groups to be one of the safest Democratic seats in the nation for this cycle. The prediction turned out to be true, with Schumer winning over 66% of the vote and all but 7 of the state's 62 counties. His final vote total of 5,212,739 makes him the largest vote-getter in the history of statewide elections in New York.
