The competition was first established back in 1991 which was won by Tom Kollins who currently holds the record for most championship wins having won the title again in 1992, 1998, 1999 and 2001. Both the winner and runner-up are automatically selected to represent the United States in the following IBSF World Snooker Championship. The championship is currently held by California's Sargon Isaac, who is now a three-time champion having previously won the championship in 2012 & 2015.
From 2014, due to a ruling from IBSF, the Championship is now only open to U.S. Citizens having previously also been open to U.S. permanent residents.
