Election results

The incumbent George S. Hawkins (D), who had first been elected in 1856, did not run for re-election.

Post-election

The winner of this election did not serve due to Florida's secession. He subsequently won election to represent Florida's 2nd district in the Confederate Congress, serving in both the First and Second Confederate Congress. Florida's seat in the United States Congress was vacant from January 21, 1860 until July 1, 1868 when Florida was readmitted following Reconstruction.
