The United Country Party (UCP) was the name given to the "loyalist" faction of the Victorian branch of the Australian Country Party following a split in 1937 resulting from the expulsion of federal MP John McEwen for supporting the federal Coalition government. The Liberal Country Party formed around McEwen's supporters, loyal to the federal party, and the UCP around supporters of Premier Albert Dunstan, loyal to the state party. The UCP had been the official name of the Victorian Country Party since 1930.
