Meaning

"Underground" is a song about drummer Dann Hume's hazy recollections of a night out in London while over there sightseeing. The song has references to the London underground railway. The single coverart uses the actual London 'Underground' signature. The band got the idea to write a song about it when they found themselves at the entrance of the London underground which is one of the few things Dann remembers of that night.

Music video

The music video debuted in the early morning of 22 January 2010 on the band's official YouTube channel. The video is shot following Jon Hume (lead singer) around in close up, making his way underground in a very hazy state. The video contains many quick cuts to the band playing in a small dark room with walls covered in road and warning signs, sometimes its just individual members playing in the room. As Jon continues making his way downstairs, other members, Pete and Dann are seen playing bass and drums around him. Jon then starts to be chased by people in animal costumes and because Jon is in a drunk state it scares him and he starts running downstairs. As Jon gets further underground, he finds himself trying to get through women who are trying to embrace him in a party-like atmosphere with flashing lights, dancing and glitter confetti everywhere. The video eventually ends with Jon falling to the ground passing out with women touching him all over.
