Edithena (No. 624) was built by C. L. Seabury Co., Morris Heights, New York, in 1914; purchased by the Navy in June 1917; and commissioned on 20 June 1917, Boatswain U. L. Norton, USNRF, in command.

Service Under the 1st Naval District

Assigned to the 1st Naval District, she performed patrol duty out of Boston, Massachusetts for the remainder of World War I and into 1919.

Decommissioning

She was stricken from the Navy List on 21 October 1919 and subsequently transferred to the Bureau of Fisheries.
