Tsewang Samanla was one among three Indians who died on Mount Everest in the 1996 Mount Everest disaster. He was a member of the first Indian team to reach the summit from the North Col. It is believed that Samanla descended later than his companions. While descending from the summit, all three were trapped in a blizzard, and died due to exposure. His body remains on the mountain.
