The name Fred has been used for a total of five tropical cyclones worldwide:

In the North Atlantic:

  • Hurricane Fred (2009) – One of the strongest hurricanes on record in the southeast tropical Atlantic, only third known major hurricane east of 35°W.
  • Hurricane Fred (2015) – The easternmost hurricane ever to occur in the tropical Atlantic, and the first one to move through the Cape Verde islands since 1892.
  • The name replaced Fabian which was retired after the 2003 season.

    In the Western Pacific:

  • Typhoon Fred (1991) (T9111, 12W) – Category 2 typhoon that struck Hainan Island and Vietnam.
  • Super Typhoon Fred (1994) (T9416, 19W, Susang) – Category 4 super typhoon that struck China, resulting in extreme storm surge combined with heavy flooding, amounting to over 1,000 fatalities and billions in damage.
  • In the Southwest Pacific:

  • Cyclone Fred (1980) – Information unknown.
