Trondheim International School ("This") was founded in 2004 as an alternative to the Norwegian schools. It became an IB World School in 2008. Ever since, it has attempted to follow the IB mission to have independent, internationally minded individuals, following to become good global citizens. It sees the IB program as a continuation process from the ""PYP"" to the ""MYP"" to the ""DP"" programs, and therefore has a continuation process with communication with the IB Diploma Program in the Trondheim Cathedral School

Recently, however, the school has been criticised by the Norwegian Education Directorate for lacking credibility in finance, students' rights and so on. After three audits by the Directorate, it was found that "The school has not shown the ability to correct the violations. We must have confidence that the school complies with the rules. If they do not, we believe it is appropriate to withdraw the approval".

It is very possible that due to numerous violations of Norwegian law, the school may be forced to shut down.

However, the board of the school has confirmed that it will fight "tooth and nail" to keep the school open.
